Benefits of UPals Program
Benefits to the Business Community
Strikingly, the percentage of Americans who graduate from college remains at approximately 45%. Some communities feel it more than others — the lack of skilled workers to fuel growth. Baby boomers are leaving the business arena, new entrepreneurs are in need of professional development, and the influx of immigrants requires extensive training. UPals strives to solve those problems. For example:
- UPals offers tours of places of employment every year. Students are exposed to a plethora of careers.
- UPals offers its students internships in the 4th and 5th year. Committed students are paired with employers to work during the summer while studying.
- Business leaders are invited to instruct classes, attend ceremonies, conduct workshops and mentor students. One on one experiences impact student perceptions of the working world.
- Businesses enjoy the benefits of being good community neighbors through branding opportunites and in-kind donations.
